There is increasing concern over the safety of the Iranian women’s national football team as it prepares to leave Australia following their elimination from the Asian Cup tournament, after the players were accused of being disloyal to their country by refusing to sing Iran’s national anthem before their first match.
FIFPRO, the world players union, announced on Monday that it had been unable to make contact with the Iranian women’s national team since the incident occurred.
